 PRASE QUARTZ WITH HEDEMBERGITE INCLUSIONS

INFORMATIONS

Prase Quartz usually refers to a quartz with deep green color due to inclusions of hedembergite or other minerals as actinolite or crossite. Prase quartz is found in Elba Island in Italy, Seriphos Island in Greece and Huanggang Mine in Inner Mongolia. Hedenbergite is a fibrous green pyroxene, while actinolite and crossite are anphiboles similar in compositions, but hydrated, all originated by contact metamorphism. Prase from Serifos has inclusions of fibrous actinolite or crossite, not hedenbergite. The inclusions are so tiny that are difficult to distinguish by naked eyes. Just is visible a faint down. Prase quartz crystals are rare and small and for that reason also gemstone cut from this material rarely reaches 10 cts.
