Quartz with phantom inclusions is common in many deposits
around the world. Most often used for cut gemstones are phantom quartzs
from Brazil and Madagascar. The phantom has to be covered with some opaque
material in order to be visible. In most cases the phantom is covered by
minerals of the chlorite family of green colors or more rarely other colors.
In Brazil there is a deposit where phantoms are white and the mineral that
cover the phantom is probably a thin layer of microcrystalline quartz.
Very popular are multilayered phantoms from Brazil where is possible to
count tens of different phantoms often with different colors. Phantom Quartz
in Brazil are found in many states as Minas Gerais, Bahia, Goias, etc.
