Lodo Quartz or Lodolite is a very popular quartz found in Brazil. It
contain a basal aggregate of vermicular minerals of the family of chlorite
with colors varying from green to brown, red, yellow and white. Vermicular
growth refers to worm-like aggregates typical of phillosilicates. Chlorite
family consists of many different minerals, the more commons are clinochlore
and chamosite, but also kaolinite. Lodo quartz is usually cut in high domed
cabochons, using the upper surface as a lens with the effect of magnify
the inclusions. Cut in this way the stones get the name of Aquarium Quartz.
Lodo is found in different locality with different inclusions, but similar
aspect, mainly from Curvelo area in Minas Gerais.
