 QUARTZ WITH BIOTITE INCLUSIONS

INFORMATIONS

Mica family minerals are commonly included in quartz as white muscovite or brown biotite, but usually crystals are not well developed and form masses inside the quartz. Well shaped biotite crystals show platy hexagonal shape or often distorted hexagon with very long developing. In transmitted light they can be brown, red or green. When crystals are elongated can be confused with lithiophilite. A distinctive character is that lithiophilite shows a lace of curved micro-fractures at the edge of the crystal while biotite do not.
